Dog Droppings

Present Situation: A member association has a problem with people walking dogs and not picking up after them. This issue is beginning to create a rift between pet owners and others. Its Board is considering options to deal with this issue and thought it might benefit from other folks' successes and regrets. The member association has created this survey and asked MLCA to conduct it.

MLCA would appreciate your input and will distribute all gathered information back to you. To get a handle on what our association members are doing, it would be appreciated if each member association would provide the information requested by the following survey.

  1. Has your POA/HOA experienced issues with people NOT picking up after their pets (usually dogs) when walking in the neighborhood?
  2. Does your POA/HOA have SPECIFIC (not general related to appropriate behavior, etc.) written guidance covering this subject? If so, please summarize. If answers to 1 & 2 are no, please discontinue the survey.
  3. Did your Board choose to , or
If not, why not, and then exit survey.
  4. How did the Board choose to address the issue; e.g.,
  5. If the Board issued guidance, did it include penalties for infractions? What were the penalties?
  6. If so, was a published sliding scale included that progressively increased the penalties for repeated infractions? If yes, please specify.
  7. How well was the guidance accepted by the membership, and what results, if any, have been achieved?
  8. Lessons learned – if you had it to do over, what, if anything, would you choose to do differently?
